The Bloods and the Crips started over twenties years ago in a little area of Los Angeles, and today, there more than 33 states and one hundred twenty-three cities which are occupied by Crips and Bloods gang members. New York City is among the one of the biggest cities in the United States, flooded with Bloods and Crips. Bloods members identify themselves through various gang indicators such as colors, clothing, symbols, tattoos, jewelry, graffiti, language, and hand signs. Gang members of the Bloods and Crips occasionally fight against each other and are responsible for a significant portion of gang-related murders in Los Angeles.

Many gang members operate under nicknames to give themselves a persona or possibly to instill a sense of family in their crime organization by using pet names. When a gang member is wanted for a crime, police often have trouble tracking them down because their associates will only know them by their street name.
