Working as a deli clerk and a deli manager was a lot of fun for the most part. I moved up really quickly in the company because I had a really good work ethic as a part time associate, and I built a really positive relationship with the ever-rotating cycle of store managers in the company. Being able to work with and educate young people on work ethic, and necessary communication skills was my favorite part of the job.

The culture in each store changed by manager, but in my time as a manager, the store had a very laissez-faire perspective on department managers as long as their sales were doing well. The only pitfalls to the job was that due to union employees, poor performance could never properly be addressed, and truly great employees could never properly be recognized, which is a huge detriment to employee morale. I was young when I worked at Stop & Shop. Its a great first job, there's balance in work life, school as well as friends and family. Advancements are highly likely if willing and ready to work. I started as a cashier, and was given the option of promotion to train for florist and I loved every second of it. There is, because its a younger crowd, a lot of unnecessary drama, so that was a down fall but if you don't get caught in the middle it's a great place to work!

There wasn't really a hard part to the job and no stress either. The management does pick favorites and lets those few break rules and writes others up.

I used to work at Stop and Shop and i have recently been involved in a situation where i was terminated for violating company policy.I was at the wrong place at the wrong time and was caught in the middle of a predicament where another employee gave me a 5 cent discount for a reusable bag without my knowledge of him doing so.

I was short exactly 5 cents on my order and the cashier, who i am friendly with, told me it was all set and he would take care of it. Assuming he just put a nickle in the drawer, i thought everything was all set.

A few minutes after i made my purchase, i was called into my managers office where i was told that the receipt showed the 5 cent discount that was put in for me without my knowledge. I have been told by my manager that it should have been my responsibility as an associate to check my receipt to make sure everything was paid for properly. I agree with that but i think it is ridiculous that i lost my job because i did not look at my receipt. Many people that i work with hardly even take the receipt after making a purchase, never mind check it over. I have attended 2 meeting so far with my manager, Union representative, as well as a member of the company's human resource department. I have another meeting coming up and i wanted to see if i could read over the Employee Purchase Policy to see if i am truly at fault for not checking my receipt, and if i find that nothing of that nature is stated i want to use that in my defense at my next meeting. If anyone knows where i could get a hand on the policies, whether i can find them on the internet or elsewhere, i would greatly appretiate it.

Best Answer: You should have been provided with a copy of the employee handbook at the time you were hired. The company will not readily keep this info available on the internet, but rather on their own private intranet, so you would have a really tough time accessing it. Try asking one of your previous co-workers, or your union rep if they either have, or can get a copy of for you. Also, you can request that the company provide a copy of it during your last meeting with them. It should be considered as a professional courtesy on there part, but it is not a requirement as long as they provided you with a copy during your employment. My question would be what happened to the cashier that rang the order up?

Were they terminated as well? On another note. As far as the whole situation goes, yes, theft is theft. But you are talking about a nickel here.

Shop

Can we assume that any theft over ten dollars would be then punishable by death? I would move on and find another job!.
